BACK TO SCHOOL FASHION SHOW AND LUNCHEON DRAW HUGE CROWD

The Helping Hands Ministry sponsored a Back to School Fashion Show on Saturday, October 27, 2008. Children from Bethel and from the Community participated in showing there wonderful fashion sense. The audience was blessed to have Singing, Music and Praise Dancing during the breaks in the fashion show.
The Church was filled with proud family and friends. Even the youngest models were able to show how to the crowd how to walk the runway.
After the fashion everyone moved to the All Purpose Room for a Fellowship Luncheon. Family, friends and everyone from the community were welcomed take to part in the event.
CONGRATULATIONS TO ASHA IVEY FORMER BETHEL MEMBER
Dr. Asha Zakiya Ivey has accepted a faculty position in the Department of Psychology at Morehouse College in Atlanta, Georgia. Dr. Ivey completed her post-doctoral work at Emory University in August 2008.
Asha received a Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from the University of Michigan and was hooded at the December 16, 2007 graduation.
Dr. Ivey previously received her Master's degree in Clinical Psychology from the University of Michigan and her Bachelor of Arts Degree in Psychology from Spelman College.Presently, she is doing postdoctoral work at Emory University and Grady Hospital in Atlanta, Georgia. While in Michigan she attended Bethel AME Church in Ann Arbor. While at Bethel Asha was very active in the Campus Outreach Ministry.
Asha is the daughter of the Reverend Ronald L. Ivey, pastor of St. Matthews AME Church in Bronx, New York and First Lady Cynthia L. Ivey, President of the New York Conference Ministers Spouses and Member-At-Large of the NYC Women's Missionary Society.
The Bethel A.M.E. Church School sponsored a African Canadian Heritage Tour on Saturday August 09, 2008. The trip was scheduled to tour Explore Walls Farm, lunch at Wheels Inn, and travel to Buxton Historical Site. The group enjoyed history, food and fun.
The 122nd Session of the Michigan Annual Conference was Held from Monday August 18th to Sunday August 24th at the Hyatt Regency Dearborn, MI. Rev. Dr. H. Michael Lemmons of Ebenezer A.M.E. was the Host Pastor. Bishop John R. Bryant and Rev. Dr. Cecilia Williams Bryant, the new Presiding Prelate and Episcopal Supervisor for the Fourth Episcopal District, brought new energy and ideas to the conference
The Conference was energized by many dynamic Pastors, Presiding Elders and Laypersons. Speakers, Choirs, Participants and attendees at the conference included, Presiding Elder Norman V. Osborn, Retiring Presiding Elder Delano Bowman and Rev. Juanita Bowman, our own WMS Connectional Second Vice Dr. President Bella G. Parker, Bro. Theodore (Ted) Harris, Bro. Joe Ezell, our own Sis. Helen Brown Oliver, and many, many others.
The Annual Church Picnic was held at the Church on Sunday July 20, 2008 after the worship service. Members brought dishes of food to share and the Kitchen Committee did an outstanding job as usual grilling burgers and hot dogs. The All Purpose Room and the tent outside were used for fellowship and fun.
DR. BELLA G. PARKER SPEAKER FOR OAK GROVE A.M.E. MISSIONARY DAY
Dr. Bella G. Parker, Connectional 2nd Vice President was the Missionary Day Speaker at Oak Grove A.M.E. Church in Detroit, MI. Rev. Dr. Robert Brumfield is the pastor of Oak Grove. The Helping Hands Ministry sponsored a Business Expo at the Peace Neighborhood Community Center on Saturday May 03, 2008. Business People and Entrepreneurs presented their products and services to the public.
BISHOP KAWIMBE DELIVERS THE MESSAGE FOR CAMPUS OUTREACH
The sermon was delivered by the Right Reverend Paul J.M. Kawimbe, Presiding Prelate of the Seventeenth Episcopal District. During the Sunday April 13, 2008 service, Bishop Kawimbe's message was inspiring and meaningful to the congregation. After the service the Campus Outreach Ministry shared Food, Fun and Fellowship with Students and the Congregation. Students, faculty and staff from University of Michigan, Eastern Michigan University, Concordia University, Cleary University, Washtenaw Community College and other area schools were welcomed to join in.
STEPHANIE TUBBS JONES, KEYNOTE SPEAKER FOR DELTA FOUNDERS DAY
Rev. Dr. Joseph N. Cousin, Sr. provided the prayer for Delta Sigma Theta - Ann Arbor Chapter Founders Day Celebration. Congresswoman Stephanie Tubbs Jones was the keynote speaker. The event was held at the Four Points Sheraton in Ann Arbor, MI on Saturday March 08, 2008.
